Fuck that guy with a rusty chainsaw. Where was that speech after Charlottesville? Now he wants to tie background check legislation to immigration. And they accuse Dems of politicizing this? Funny thing is, the only solution is political. The government must do something.
But go ahead and do all the background checks you want. Both the shooters would have come up clean. Mental health is not the only part of the problem, but it’s the easiest to point to so nothing gets done. It’s mental health AND easy access to automatic weapons.

Actually, I did glance at hat — and not being a Fox News viewer, I actually found a lot of the Fox stuff pretty benign and often simple/objective. Yes, excessive immigration is a problem (for any country). That’s pretty obvious. Yes, cultural or economic disruption/ dilution can cause short-term issues in communities. Anywhere.
The problem that Fox and Trump both have is the
mosaic
— when you take EVERYTHING they say together, it paints a pretty grim picture and I can totally understand how people have the impression they do.

I’ll trot out the same thing I first said after Virginia Tech and all the rest: The media collectively need to stop naming these people and talking about them.
If people online want to do it, whatever. But major news outlets need to boycott this stuff. Call it “reverse doxing” or something. But now almost every single one of these assholes cites a previous asshole as inspiration. And it resonates with all of us because we know the previous asshole.
Leave these assholes’ names and ideologies in the backwaters of 8chan.

Yes, I also agree. I read an article a few years ago about the psych ology behind a riot, and how it is similar to the psychology of mass shootings. There are many thousands of people in a city who may be convinced to join a riot if enough people are already doing it . These people would normally never riot but, since the masses are rioting, it seems all right. There are also people who see the number of mass shootings happening, and the act become “normalized.” By naming the rioters, or mass shooters, some people look up to them as “heroes” which makes things much worse.

The potus’ speech did seem a bit off brand, and uncharacteristically poetic. Props to him for not taking it off the rails so much.
Nobody has clean hands on issues like this. We need to stop arguing over how much blood everybody has on them and start stitching the wound. Or at least grab some clean rags and apply pressure....

Someone should liken gun legislation to legislation criminalizing child predators , in the sense that no one, regardless of their political compass, could reasonably stand against such legislation. I’m not saying those issues are in any way similar, but this is ridiculous that this is a partisan issue. Maybe the specifics of HOW to control guns is carried out might be partisan, but that is it.
